  4. An application that changes the type and creators of files “en mass”, by Russell Street (and Grant Wilson).

  6. This utility lets you change the types and creators of lots of files at once — something no other program I have come across lets you do.

  10. • Changes the type and/or creator of files to a new type/creator
  11. • Can filter the files based on them having (or not having) a specified type and/or creator.
  12. • Add and remove extensions from the files
  13. • Configurable by a preferences file

  15. Using it

  18. The easist way to use En Mass is to collect all the files you want to change into one folder with the application (and preferences file) and then launch En Mass. Change the settings in the dialog to the way you want the files to be changed and click the “Do it” button.

  20. En Mass also supports documents launched with it by shift clicking under System 6, and documents dropped on it under System 7.

  22. En Mass will not alter itself or its preferences file (provided its type is 'PREF' and creator is 'ΔTYp').

  24. The Main Dialog

  27. When you launch En Mass you get presented with a modal dialog box. The controls do what you expect would expect them to do.

  29. The Preferences File

You can set up default values for the controls on the main dialog box using a preferences file. This file can live either in the same folder as the application, in the Preferences folder in the System folder, or in the Sytem folder. It is best if has a type of 'PREF' and a creator of 'ΔTYp' to avoid getting changed by En Mass.

  34. The preferences are stored in a 'pref' resource (id 128) in this file. A ResEdit template is also included to make your life easy. A 'TEXT' resource provides a little “on-line help” on the contents and meaning of the resource.

  36. Most of the fields have an corresponding item on the dialog, except for the “Change T Only”, “Change C Only” and “Exten” fields.

  38. For Change T Only and Change C Only a value of ‘0’ means the check box is unchecked, ‘1’ the “is” radio button is selected, and ‘2’ the “is not” radio button is selected.

  40. For Exten, ‘0’ corresponds to “none”, ‘1’ to “add”, and ‘2’ to “remove”.

This program is free, but © 1992 Russell Street and Grant Wilson. Provided that this documentation accompanies it, En Mass may be freely distributed. Except for the nominal downloading fees, no charge is to be made for En Mass. Any bundling with a shareware or commercial product must be done with only with the written consent of the author. Contact him to discuss this.
